People’s Family of Corporations
Dwayne Butler took on the chief executive role at Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Centers (BJKPHC) eleven years ago, coming to the health center from a career in investment banking. Mr. Butler has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Morehouse College in Atlanta, and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. His life as an investment banker was one of jet setting and hotels. Before joining BJKPHC, he commuted weekly between Chicago and New York as the first vice president of technology in North America for investment banking firm ABN Amro. He is no stranger to the mission of BJKPHC for Mr. Butler’s mother is Betty Jean Kerr, who spent 30 years as CEO of the Federally Qualified Health Center that now bears her name before retiring from the CEO post at the end of 2007. The search for Kerr’s replacement was handled by an outside search firm; Mr. Butler applied and was hired in April 2008.
Since taking over the CEO role, Mr. Butler has grown BJKPHC’s budget, established partnerships, and broke ground on a new adolescent behavioral health center, now the Lacy Clay Center for Children’s Health. His collaborations include the integration of BJKPHC with the Amanda Luckett Murphy Hopewell Center, a community behavioral health center which services both children and adults.
