BIPOC Mental Health Month: Advocating for Black Maternal Mental Health
July is BIPOC Mental Health Month, and within this month, we observe Black Maternal Mental Health Week (July 19-25). This week is a crucial time to shed light on the mental health challenges that Black birthing people face and to advocate for better support and resources.
Black mothers and birthing people are disproportionately affected by mental health issues due to systemic inequities. These challenges can manifest as higher rates of postpartum depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions. It is vital that we listen, support, and act to ensure they receive the care they need.
At the Integrated Health Network (IHN), we recognize the importance of mental health and the specific needs of Black birthing people. Let’s come together to uplift our Black birthing people, provide them with the necessary resources, and work towards a future where they can thrive.
If you or someone you know needs immediate mental health support, dial 988 for the Mental Crisis Lifeline. You are not alone.
