Juneteenth is observed each year on June 19 and commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
For generations, communities have celebrated Juneteenth through gatherings that honor Black history, culture, achievement, and resilience. Today, the holiday serves as both a celebration and an opportunity to learn, reflect, and connect with one another.
