June is Pride Month, a time to recognize and celebrate LGBTQ+ communities and their contributions to our region. Pride Month traces its roots to the Stonewall uprising in June 1969, a pivotal event that helped spark the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement and inspired the first Pride marches the following year.
Today, Pride Month is marked by celebrations, educational programs, cultural events, and opportunities to connect with neighbors and community organizations. Throughout the St. Louis area, local nonprofits, libraries, businesses, and community groups are hosting events that welcome people of all backgrounds to learn, celebrate, and build connections.
