The Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health Community Care Initiative (AIM CCI) is a pivotal program dedicated to addressing the alarming rise in pregnancy-related deaths in the United States. This initiative is particularly focused on supporting women who are most at risk, including those of advanced maternal age, from medically underserved communities, and those experiencing significant racial and ethnic inequities.
Our Mission
Established in 2020, AIM CCI is led by the National Healthy Start Association Inc (NHSA) in cooperation with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Our mission is to implement maternal safety bundles in community-based organizations and outpatient clinical settings across the country. These bundles are designed to improve maternal health outcomes by ensuring best practices are consistently applied.
What Are Maternal Safety Bundles?
Maternal safety bundles are comprehensive sets of evidence-based practices aimed at reducing maternal mortality and morbidity. Developed under the guidance of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and the Council on Patient Safety in Women’s Health Care, these bundles provide healthcare teams with a standardized approach to care for pregnant and postpartum women.
Our Focus Areas
- Postpartum Care: Enhancing support for women after childbirth to ensure a smooth transition to motherhood.
- Maternal Mental Health: Addressing mental health concerns that may arise during and after pregnancy.
- Intimate Partner Violence: Providing resources and support to address and prevent violence against women.
- Hypertension Reduction: Implementing strategies to manage and reduce high blood pressure during pregnancy.
Our Pilot Sites
Missouri is among 15 sites nationwide chosen to pilot these maternal safety bundles. This initiative aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of these bundles in both community-based organizations and outpatient clinical settings.
